Dante Jardon stops Sheffield's Anthony Tomlinson in 9 rounds
Mexican Dante Jardon scored an impressive knockout victory over hometown favourite Anthony Tomlinson in 9 rounds at the Ponds Forge Arena in Sheffield.
Both fighters traded at close range throughout the fight which would be decisive factor for Jardon winning the fight as it took its tool on Tomlinson who suffered his first career to date in his 14th professional fight.
Tomlinson opted to trade with the Mexican in what turned out to be an entertaining slugfest as the fight progressed with Jardon landed the cleaner punches however he did take a fair few shots himself.
Jardon did find a breakthrough in the ninth when the Mexican landed a thumping right hand that sent the exhausted Tomlinson sprawling to the canvas. The hometown fighter was unable to beat the count handing the IBO Inter-continental title to Jardon.
A mass brawl erupted after the final bell as one of the members of Tomlinson's team took a swipe at Jardon during his celebrations following the stoppage however it was broken up pretty abruptly.
British fight fans are becoming all to used to Mexicans beating the Brits like we've seen with Josh Warrington against Mauricio Lara, Canelo Alvarez against multiple British fighters most recently Billy Joe Saunders and also Andy Ruiz Jr against Anthony Joshua.
Dave Allen made a successful comeback in the Heavyweight division, stopping Italian opponent Andrea Pesce with relative ease in the second round. 'The White Rhino' hadn't been in the ring since early last year but seemed to shake off the ring rust albeit against a poor opponent.
Newcastle's Tommy Hodgson made a perfect start to his career in the pro ranks with an impressive points victory over the tough journeyman Naeem Ali. Hodgson brought a huge contingence of fans with him down to Sheffield with pro fighters such as Joe Laws and April Hunter cheering on their fellow Geordie fighter.
Mark Jeffers scored a shutout victory when he fought Michal Ryba over eight rounds. Jeffers scored a knockdown in the third on the way to his thirteenth victory and remains unbeaten.
In the first of two female fights on the night, Stevi Levy continued to impress making it four consecutive wins in the pro game with a comprehensive points victory against Claudi Ferenczi. Katie Healy also added another win to her record following her successful pro debut in May s she outpointed Karina Kopinska over four rounds.
Levi Kinsiona picked up another win on his record with an easy points victory against Lee Connelly, whilst Sufyaan Ahmed suffered defeat against the winless Jahfibus Faure.
All in all it was a great night in Sheffield and Fightzone is fast becoming a great platform for young fighters to gain exposure and also talented seasoned fighters to continue to progress in the pro ranks.
