Stanley Stannard Exclusive Interview

Stanley Stannard talks recent victory & Importance of Small Hall Shows

Stanley Stannard scored a career best victory early in September with a six round points decision win over former amateur rival Kyle Fox.

Fighting on the 'East Midlands Elite' show at the Morningside Arena in Leicester, promoted by his trainer Carl Greaves, Stannard moved to 5-0 as a professional.

Stanley fights in the super-welterweight division and is hoping to be in the ring again before the year is out.

I spoke to Stanley about his recent win...

Question ; 'Last Saturday you defeated a tough opponent in Kyle Fox, how did you rate your performance and was he as tough as you expected

Stannard; 'I wasn't too happy with my performance to be honest, I think I was over excited from the crowd and too eager to force a stoppage that I didn't use any of my boxing skills or best attributes to win.'

Question; 'You landed some big shots on Fox, did you ever feel like you had him hurt?

Stannard; 'I definitely know I had hum hurt a few times but Kyle was very clever and when I landed big shots he held on to give him time to recover. I hit him in the first round and thought I was going to stop him but he tied me up and fair play to him because he did the smart thing.'

Question; 'Now as your level of opponents steps up, do you think it'll bring the best out of you and show what level you can get to?

Stannard; 'I definitely think I have learnt a lot from that fight and I'm learning all the time, so now as my opponents step up I will use more of my boxing ability rather than trying to bully my opponents and that's when I will look stylish and at my best.'

Question; 'The show was promoted by your trainer Carl Greaves, how did you think the show did all together and how important do you think small hall shows are to the sport?

Stannard; 'Small hall shows are so important and I'm glad everyone, especially the fans got behind their fighters and pulled together to put on a great show with an amazing atmosphere. The show was such a success especially considering how well it was ran and that all of us 'home' fighters won. Carl Worked so hard to make sure the show went ahead to allow us prospects to be active again and I can't thank him enough for all he does, he's a very special man in boxing.'

Question; 'Is there any fight news coming or a planned fight in the works?

Stannard; 'I don't have another fight date yet but Carl may promote another show before the end of the year and I'd love to be out again before the end of the year. I'll be back training after my week off and we will go from there.'
