Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant Preview
Here we are, the road to Undisputed ends here. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs Caleb Plant, Las Vegas Nevada. All the belts all the glory.
Arguably the biggest star in boxing, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, has been on an assault of the super middleweight division, picking up the WBC, WBO and WBA titles to date with only the IBF left to seize. He claimed wins over Callum Smith, Anvi Yildirim and Billy Joe Saunders so far on his pursuit with only Caleb Plant left.
The fight almost fell through after the first round of negotioations but both teams managed to come to an agreement of terms several weeks later.
Canelo last fought back in May, in front of a sold out AT&T stadium, when he defeated the slick southpaw, Billy Joe Saunders. The Brit sustained a serious eye injury during the eighth that forced him to retire on his stool, however he did cause the Mexican some problems and had some success in the middle rounds.
Caleb 'Sweet Hands' Plant has been quietly going about his business in the super middleweight division since his World title victory over Jose Uzcategui back in 2019 and now gets his chance to become the first ever undisputed super middleweight world champion. Since then he has defeated Mike Lee, Vincent Feigenbutz and Caleb Truax respectively.
Plant is going to have to assertive his authority from the off if he is going to be successful in this bout, he needs to show Canelo his power and avoid losing the opening rounds so he is not playing catch up as the fight progresses.
Canelo has strengths in abundance from his movement to his power, and no one apart from arguably the best boxer of all time, Floyd Mayweather, has been able to defeat him.
The pair came in to a heated bust up at the press conference several weeks ago, where Plant suffered a cut underneath his eye after an alteration between the pair.
The fight is set to produce fireworks and definitely shouldn't be missed with a first Undisputed super middleweight champion of the World set to be crowned.
