Conor Benn vs Chris Algeri Preview
Arguably, one of Britain's most exciting fighters, Conor Benn, makes another step up this weekend as he challenges former World title challenger Chris Algeri.
Conor Benn is at the forefront of the next crop of British boxers to attack the world scene, with his route to a World title mapped out and a shot is seemingly on the horizon. Dubbed as another 'Step up' for Benn, he himself claims is it really a step up or proof that he is above this level already.
Chris Algeri is a seasoned campaigner, having shared the ring with an all time great in Manny Pacquiao, top welterweight star Errol Spence Jr and British hero Amir Khan. He has all the experience to take Benn to deep waters and test the rising star, albeit being past his best at 37 years old.
Benn's speed and ferociousness will play a huge part in this fight, we've seen this before when he blitzed through Samuel Vargas earlier this year in one round. Does Algeri have the reflexes and reactions to avoid the pinpoint accurate shots from 'The Destroyer'?
At just 25 years old and boasting a record of 19-0, Benn will be taking a huge leap towards a World title opportunity if he is victorious on Saturday night. Promoter Eddie Hearn believes Benn is only a couple fights away from a shot at one of the champions at 147 and fully expects the Brit to be challenging for a title next year.
Benn has been racking up his experience at a high level over the last year or so with valuable rounds against a tough Mexican in Adrian Granados and the tough Sebastian Formella. Going the distance with Algeri would prove to be vital experience for Benn in the long run as he hopes to keep climbing the ladder towards world glory.
