Canelo Stops Billy Joe Saunders after eye injury

Canelo Alvarez added the WBO World Title to his WBA , WBC and Ring magazine titles last night with a win over Billy Joe Saunders when he retired on his stool before the start of the ninth round after a horror eye injury.

Saunders was causing Canelo problems with his southpaw style and was looking like he was growing into the fight after a slow start with many of the rounds hard to split with only a few punches of significance landing, although he only won three rounds on the cards prior to the stoppage he was a confident fighter heading into the later rounds.

Canelo landed a massive undercut in the eight round that instantly caused Saunders eye to swell and close completely. Mark Tibbs made the decision to pull Saunders out the fight due to the extent of the injuries and didn't want to risk his fighter.

Although Saunders didn't win , it showed he can mix it with the best super middleweights in the world with a great performance. 

Eddie Hearn has confirmed Billy Joe will undergo surgery on his eye this evening. Saunders has come under a lot of scrutiny on social media saying he quit , but it my opinion it was the right call from his trainer Mark Tibbs , potentially saving Saunders from going blind in his eye if he took more punishment from the Mexican.
