Anthony Fowler on Roberto Garcia , potential fights and Daniel Dubois
Liverpool's Anthony Fowler is looking to continue his impressive winning run when he takes on experienced veteran Roberto Garcia on the first of three Matchroom Fight Camp shows on July 31st.
Fowler , currently 14-1 is looking to add to his previous five wins since his sole defeat in 2019 , wins over Brian Rose , Harry Scarff and Jorge Fortea to name a few have showed Fowler is very capable of stepping up and fighting at a higher level.
Roberto Garcia has a record of 44 wins and only 5 defeats and has notably gone the distance with Liam Smith , Martin Murray and Antonio Margarito , a seasoned professional who should give Fowler a stern test.
Question ; Hi Anthony , on Monday your next fight was announced for week 1 at Matchroom's Fight Camp against a tough fighter in Roberto Garcia , do you think this is the test you need at this point in your career?
Fowler ' Firstly , yes I do think this will give me the test and the rounds I need at this stage of my career , I need these fights so when I step up to a better level I can do the rounds.'
Question ; Garcia has been the distance with the likes of Liam Smith and Martin Murray , how big of a statement would it be for you to be the first man to stop Garcia?
Fowler ; 'It would be a ,massive statement to stop him but I'm not thinking of that , I'm prepared for a very tough fight , but I'd love the stoppage.'
Question ; In terms of future opponents Liam Smith has been mentioned , is that a fight you would take? Potentially in Liverpool as that would be massive for the city.
Fowler ; Regarding Liam Smith , yes I would take that fight further down the line , I'm under no illusion he's ahead of me in terms of experience and the level he's operated at , he's a good solid fighter one I have a lot of respect for but I also know what I'm capable of and I wouldn't be fighting if I didn't believe I can go all the way so we will see what the future holds , but yes that be a great fight for our city and one I'd love.
Question ; Recently Shane McGuigan has been saying Ted Cheeseman , JJ Metcalf and Sam Eggington wont take the fight against yourself , why do you think that is the case?
Fowler ; 'Regarding the fighters mentioned , you would have to ask them why they wont fight me only they know. It may not be them it may be their team , Because they don't seem ones to back down. I may be a fighter they don't need at the moment with no belt etc but the main thing about Boxing is putting bums on seats and everyone wants these fights so why not?
Question ; Daniel Dubois has recently joined the McGuigan gym , what is it like training with a top Heavyweight prospect and how far do you think he will go in his career?
Fowler ; 'DDD for his age and the potential and talent he already has , I don't have any doubts Shane will get him to the top. He's got time on his side , he cant hit hard and he's with the best coach in the country. There is only one place he is going and that is to the top. He's a top lad who works hard , Great sparring off Lawrence Okolie , so people will soon see what he does under Shane , give him a bit more time.'
