Lewis Ritson vs Jeremias Ponce preview
Saturday night Matchroom Boxing says goodbye to Sky Sports when Geordie Lewis Ritson (21-1) fights in a final eliminator for the IBF Super lightweight title against Argentine Jeremias Ponce (27-0) at the Vertu Motors Arena in Newcastle.
Ritson hasn't fought since a controversial split decision win over Miguel Vazquez in October with many disagreeing with the outcome after a underwhelming performance from the Newcastle man. Ritson has won four on the bounce since his loss to Francesco Patera in 2018 and I expect him to keep this run going on Saturday night in front of his home fans.
Argentina's Ponce boats an unbeaten record of 27 wins and 0 defeats and has previously won the IBO World Title although there is very few people who feel that the IBO is a legitimate World title. Ponce a come forward fighter will be there for the victory and it looks to be a crowd pleasing fight with the styles of both fighters.
I am predicting a points victory for Lewis Ritson on Saturday night , I think his move back to train with his Father will be a good career move for 'The Sandman' , although I don't think it will be an easy night Ritson as Ponce is coming to win and isn't afraid to come forward.
The undercard features a lot of local fighters with the return of Joe Laws , who lost to Rylan Charlton late last year. Laws is hoping to return to winning ways when fights Nestor Maradiaga (9-10-2) in a Welterweight contest. Thomas Ward will be looking to move towards a World Title shot with a win on Saturday , he fights Mexican Edy Mercado (17-5-6).
Explosive Heavyweight Alen Babic is on a mission through the division and hopes to move to 7 victories out of 7 on Saturday. Also in the Heavyweight division Solomon Dacres will be hoping to add to his impressive debut last month and move to 2-0 , he fights Spain's Alvaro Terrero (5-11-2).
In the Woman's division , Local talent April Hunter eyes another victory in her professional career as she tries to move to 4-0 against Klaudia Vigh (3-27-1). Ellie Scotney is also looking to keep on winning , this time in the super bantamweight division , she faces Vanesa Caballero.
There is also a debut on the show , Cyrus Pattinson , a super welterweight contest against Yoncho Markov (4-2).
