Joe Joyce vs Carlos Takam Preview

Joe Joyce looks to continue his pursuit to a World title shot on Saturday night when he takes on Veteran former World title challenger Carlos Takam at the Excel Arena , London , Live on BT Sport.

The non stop heavyweight machine is looking to make it thirteen wins as a professional , Joyce is coming off a career best victory over Daniel Dubois in November and will want to carry that momentum , that will inevitably land him a World title shot.

The risk with Joyce is his age , at 35 he can't afford to slip up and suffer a defeat , the same can be said for Takam. Joyce will be on course for a mandatory shot with the WBO next year and promoter Frank Warren has stated his desire to have Joyce fight at the Emirates Stadium home of Arsenal.

This could well be Carlos Takams last venture in a Boxing ring at the age of 40. The question is how much desire does Takam have left to perform at the top level , however a win over Joyce could set him up for a rematch with Anthony Joshua later down the line.

Takam lost to Anthony Joshua in late 2017 , due to a controversial stoppage. Takam stepped in with only 10 days notice after Kubrat Pulev pulled out due to an injury , he would later go on to get stopped in 10 rounds.

This kind of experience is going to be key for Takam against a game Joe Joyce who is known for his come forward relentless style.

On the undercard there is a mouth watering clash between Chris Jenkins and Ekow Essuman for the British and Commonwealth super welterweight titles in what could potentially be the fight of the night , as most fights for the coveted British title rarely disappoint.

Essuman , who fights out of Nottingham , is coming in to this bout as the unbeaten fighter , with 14 career wins to date , his opponent Chris Jenkins has been out of the ring for 20 months , which could prove vital , as we have seen a lot of fighters succumb to defeat after long inactivity due to Covid-19.

Hamzah Sheeraz will defend his WBO European Super welterweight title against Ezequiel Gurria over 10 rounds. Sheeraz has been ordered to fight Anthony Fowler as a final eliminator for the British title which is currently held by Ted Cheeseman.

Heavyweight prsopect David Adeleye returns after his controversial victory over Kamil Sokolowski in April. Adeleye needs a big performance here to show his last performance was just a blip in his career.
