Hughie Fury vs Christian Hammer Preview

Hughie Fury vs Christian Hammer Preview

Boxxer arrive in Newcastle for a blockbuster night of boxing live and exclusive on Sky Sports.

Hughie Fury headlines a massive card in the north east against Germany's Christian Hammer, who his cousin Tyson, defeated in 8 rounds, 6 years ago.

Hughie who is now 27, never turns his back on a tough fight, already facing Alexander Povetkin, Kubrat Pulev and Joseph Parker in his relatively young career to date.

Hammer is approaching the end of his career at the age of 34 and if he fails to win, it would mark the end of any potential big fights in the future.

Hughie Fury is coming in to the fight as the much bigger man standing at 6 foot 6 inches compared to Hammer who is 6 foot 2 inches, Fury can use his reach and height to his advantage and work everything off the jab to keep Hammer at bay. Fury also has great footwork and head movement, skills he will need to exercise if he is to get the win.

Christian Hammer scored a knock out in his most recent fight back in May, albeit against a very poor opponent. Hammer will need to work up close and shorten the gap to gain any success in this fight. If he can work on the inside and target the body, he can slow Fury down and drag him in to his own fight.

Savannah Marshall makes her second defence of her WBO World middleweight title as she battles Lolita Muzeya, in front of her passionate home crowd. The Rio 2016 Olympian, has frequently been linked to a mega fight with undisputed super welterweight champion Claressa Shields.

Savannah has really grown in to the pro game, having scored 8 knock outs in 10 wins, due to her unforgiving power. However she is not just a power puncher, she has great boxing ability which she has showcased on several occasions. Trained by Peter Fury, Marshall has shown improvements in abundance and the sky is the limit when it comes to what she can achieve in the sport and I believe when she meets Claressa Shields in the ring in the near future, she will be victorious.

Chris Eubank Jr joins the action after a last minute pull out from his opponent, forced him off the bill two weeks ago in London. Eubank Jr now fights Wanik Awdijan over 10 rounds. On paper it should be a relatively easy fight for Chris and a win here will set up a big fight at the end of the year.

Newcastle's Lewis Ritson looks to bounce back from his stoppage defeat to Jeremias Ponce last time out. Ritson fights Henry Lundy on Saturday night and is now being guided by new promotional company Probellum and will hope to move back in to title contention if he strings together a few wins.

Exciting middleweight Bradley Rea makes his first appearance since March, when he meets Jez Smith in an 8 round contest. Manchester's Rea, burst on to the scene with a first round stoppage of Lee Cutler back in March, on Lawrence Okolie's undercard and was a huge signing for Boxxer with the potential he brings.

Jez Smith has built up a good amount of experience over the last couple of years. Earlier this year he stepped up to fight Kerman Lejarraga, now European champion, over in Spain. Smith knocked Lejarraga down twice in the fight but ultimately lost by 7th round stoppage.

Heavyweight Steve Robinson fights Reece Barlow over 6. Newcastle's own, April Hunter gets to perform in front of her home fans once again, she fights Kirstie Bavington in the welterweight division.

Mark Dickinson makes his professional debut in the middleweight division whilst Georgia O'Connor debuts in the super welterweight division.

Where to watch & Start time

The action will get underway from 7:30pm on Sky Sports.

The undercard will be streamed on Sky Sports Boxing's social media channels from 5:30pm
