Kiko Martinez Stuns Kid Galahad To Snatch IBF Crown & Alcyia Baumgardner stops Terri Harper
Kiko Martinez knocked out Kid Galahad in Sheffield to capture the IBF World Featherweight title.
In what was supposed to be a routine voluntary defence for the Britain, turned into a nightmare with a massive upset at the Utilita Arena in Galahad's hometown of Sheffield. For the first 4 rounds, Kid Galahad was in cruise control, landing at will, especially with his straight left hand.
The tables turned dramatically at the end of round 5 when, out of nowhere Martinez landed a vicious right hook to floor Galahad and have the arena in complete shock. Galahad somehow rose to his feet to beat the count and, fortunately, the bell came for the end of the round to save him from an inevitable onslaught.
Dominic Ingle, trainer of Galahad, was furious with his fighter for standing right in front of Martinez that led to the knockdown. The bell for round 6 rang around the arena and within an instant, Martinez landed an overhand right, flush on the chin of Galahad to send him on the canvas out cold. Martinez was ecstatic with himself, he had come in to this fight as the underdog and expected to succumb to defeat but the Spaniard rolled back the years and scored a show reel knockout that could well be the KO of the year.
"I can't believe what I've just seen," Said Eddie Hearn.
"It was the most stunning thing I've ever seen in a boxing ring. It was such a one-sided fight. It was beat-down, a masterclass."
Alycia Baumgardner stunned Terri Harper and made a mockery of the pre fight odds to win the WBC Super featherweight title in dramatic fashion. Baumgardner dominated from start to finish. In the fourth she landed a huge right hand that had Harper out on her feet, stunned and not fit to continue. The referee instantly waved off the contest, crowing Baumgardner as the new World champion.
"I've dreamed of this moment," Said Baumgardner. "I told myself I'd become a world champion. I came over here as the challenger but my confidence was 100%.
"I'm so thankful to all the believers. You know I'm the top dog at 130."
Bournemouth's Cruiserweight Chris Billam-Smith cruised to a points victory over Dylan Bregeon to successfully defend his European title. In a somewhat underwhelming bout, Billam-Smith won almost every round on all three judges scorecards to move to 14-1 and a step closer to a World title shot.
Dom Hunt claimed the Central area welterweight title with a close fought points victory over James Flint on the undercard. Donte Dixon stepped up and defeated Jordan McCorry over 8 rounds, Dixon knocked down his opponent in the sixth and was crowned victorious on the scorecard.
