Daniel Jacobs vs John Ryder Preview
Alexandra Palace - traditional home of world championship darts - stages the first Matchroom boxing show of 2022 as Danny Jacobs and John Ryder share the ring in a middleweight clash.
Boxing returns to Alexandra Palace with a strong fight card including heavyweight prospect Johnny Fisher, upcoming female prospect Ellie Scotney and British and Commonwealth champion Felix Cash.
Danny Jacobs, an established world level fighter crosses over the pond to fight John Ryder in an WBA world title eliminator. Jacobs has experience in abundance, racking up an impressive 37 victories in 40 contests. He also held the WBA & IBF World middleweight titles. Jacobs challenged Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in 2019 for the unified world championship but ultimately came up short.
Inactivity could play a big part in this fight for Jacobs who has not stepped through the ropes since late 2019. However Ryder appeared in September last year as he scored a fifth round knockout victory over Jozef Jurko.
No doubt this is a huge test for John Ryder, who arguably should've been world champion in 2019 after his controversial points loss to Callum Smith. Ryder trains out of the Tony Sims gym, which is packed with upcoming and established fighters.
