Conor Benn vs Chris Van Heerden Preview

Conor Benn (20-0 13 KOs) looks to take another step in the right direction to achieve his world title dream on April 16th when he collides with South African welterweight Chris Van Heerden (28-2-1 12 KOs) at the Manchester Arena live and exclusive on DAZN.

'The Destroyer' Conor Benn breezed through Chris Algeri in his last bout back in December, the Brit dispatched of his American in just four rounds.

His career has been about step by step development, with no amateur experience, his professional career has been scrutinised thoroughly. The Benn name carries a certain weight and brings extra criticism from fight fans as a lot believe a son of a former world champion boxer gets opportunities they don't deserve. But the reality of boxing is if you bring the audience you will get the chances above others.

Chris Van Heerden, who hails from South Africa, most recently challenged highly rated welterweight Jaron Ennis but the bout ended prematurely due to a clash of heads in the first round. In the fight Heerden got hit almost at will by Jaron Ennis, if the fight went past the first round it was only a matter of time before Ennis would've scored the stoppage.

Van Heerden is most known for that bout with Jaron Ennis and his 2015 match up with the now unified welterweight champion Errol Spence. In just Spence's 16th pro fight he scored an eighth round stoppage over Van Heerden.

Benn had a punch perfect year in 2021, boosting his profile, popularity and most importantly his world rankings. He started the year with an explosive win over Samuel Vargas in one round, a competent points win over Mexican Adrian Granados and in December to round off the year he disposed of Chris Algeri in 4 rounds with a brutal knockout victory.
