Fightzone Bolton preview & what next for Jack Massey?
Jack Massey 19-1-0 tops the bill at the University of Bolton stadium on Saturday night in what was scheduled to be his first defence of his IBO cruiserweight world title vs Vaclav Pejsar 19-12-0. Massey won the vacant strap in November stopping Bilal Laggoune 25-2-2 in the third round after dropping him twice.
Even without the title on the line the Englishman will look to add to his 10 stoppage wins against an opponent who he has shared time in the ring with in sparring sessions and has the same amount of victories on his record, yet five more stoppages.
Should Massey make a statement which I believe he intends to do, then I'd like to see his team to put him in with the other top contenders in Britain who are doing the division huge justice of late. Isaac Chamberlain is the fight being spoken about more than any other and with no promotional issues in the way then I hope that we could see this by the time 2022 is over. With 'One Smack' having something to bring to the table with his IBO title, albeit not as significant as the other four governing bodies, it can be a spring board for greater things and fighters calling him out. Jack knows this himself and in his most recent interview with fightzone he explains that "a few people have come out of the woodwork" he would be open for possible unification with the with other champions such as fellow Brit Lawrence Okolie 19-0-0 who he was due to fight back in 2019 but pulled out due to injury.
However, the WBO title holder and his promoter Eddie Hearn have made it clear the plan is to go into a unification fight with Mairis Breidis 28-1-0 next, who currently holds the IBF version in the division.
If the Chamberlain fight doesn't get made next for him then another sensible well matched option could be Deoin Jumah 14-1-0. Both will see it as a very winnable fight and with the Londoner looking to respond to a recent 8th round KO loss to another domestic rival in Richard Riakporhe 14-0-0 I think he'd jump at the chance to fight the man from Marple. Riakporhe is also another one that they could be looking to make after the two faced off in 2019 for the vacant British Lonsdale belt at York hall, it adds extra spice for a potential rematch. Especially with world honours on the line.
A packed undercard sees Kheron Gilpinin 1-0-0 and Harrison Hobson 1-0-0 both in their second professional outings in scheduled 4 rounders. Middlesbrough based polish middleweight Ryazard Lewicki also 1-0-0 faces off against 52 fight veteran Tedodar Nikolov 5-44-4.
Exciting light heavyweight prospect 21 year old Billy Deniz 4-0-0 will look to add to his 50% KO ratio in his 5th professional bout against another seasoned 40 fight professional Daniel Borisov 7-31-2 whos last outing was a 4 round shut out defeat to another man on the bill in Wycombe King 2-0-0 who steps up a level to fight Luke Blackledge 26-12-2 in another scheduled 4 rounder.
At super middleweight Reece Farnhill 4-0-0 squares off against Daniel Bazo 3-23-3. Hot prospect Callum Simpson makes his 8th pro outing against Michal Loniewski 3-2-0 at light heavyweight and Morecambe's Reece Macmillan 14-1-0 faces off against Brighton's Mark Butler 2-1-0. Farnhill, Macmillan and Simpson are all scheduled for 6 rounders.
In the 8 round contests Michael Gomez Jr 16-1-0 sees himself in another stay busy fight against Ezequiel Gregores 3-10-0 after beating Christian Flores 13-16-2 last month in Oldham. Another local lad Zak Miller 8-0-0 who already has 33 rounds to his name as a professional steps up from 6 rounders against Engel Gomez 8-8-1. And Fleetwood's Dan Caitlin 8-1-0 is evenly matched on paper against Bulgarian Borislov Ivanov 10-2-0.
