'The Gypsy King' Tyson Fury (32-0-1 23 KOs) cemented his place as the best Heavyweight of this era as he broke down and stopped Dillian Whyte (28-3 19 KOs) in six rounds at Wembley Stadium to retain the WBC Heavyweight World Championship.
A venue fit for a Heavyweight blockbuster, Fury returned home to defend his WBC Crown in front of 94,000 fans at Wembley and live on BT Sport Box Office.
Whyte came out in the first round in the southpaw stance, which surprised many, however Whyte didn't gain much success from the stance switching back to orthodox in the second.
The fight was all one way traffic from Fury. Dillian couldn't close the distance to even get close to Fury and with Fury starting to get in to his rhythm landing his snapping jab.
In the closing seconds of the sixth round, Fury landed the show stopping uppercut that has been the downfall of Whyte in his previous defeats.
Whyte rose to his feet but was on extremely unsteady legs forcing Mark Lyson to stop the contest.
Fury said, “I’m overwhelmed with the support. I can’t believe that my 94,000 countrymen and women have come here tonight to see me perform. I just want to say from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much to every single person who bought a ticket here tonight or stayed up late to watch it on TV."
“Dillian Whyte is a warrior. And I believe that Dillian will be a world champion, but tonight, he met a great in the sport. I’m one of the greatest heavyweights of all time and unfortunately for Dillian Whyte, he had to face me here tonight. There’s no disgrace. He’s a tough, game man. He’s as strong as a bull. He’s got the heart of a lion. But you’re not messing with a mediocre heavyweight. You’re messing with the best man on the planet. And you saw that tonight with what happened.
“I think Lennox Lewis could even be proud of the right uppercut tonight.”
