What Next For Dillian Whyte?
After Dillian Whytes unsuccessful World title challenge on Saturday night, I take a look at what could be next for 'The Body Snatcher'.
After waiting over 1000 days for his title shot, he fell short against the unstoppable Tyson Fury on Saturday night at Wembley Stadium, falling to a sixth round knockout.
Dillian has many options if he is to remain in the sport, as he is one of the biggest draws in Boxing after headlining several PPV events here in the UK.
What would it take for Whyte to remain in the sport? Big money fight? World title shot?
Deontay Wilder fight
Whyte was always chasing the Deontay Wilder fight when the American had the WBC strap and with both men coming off losses to Tyson Fury it could be a good match up. With Tyson Fury adamant he is retiring from the sport, it will leave the WBC Title vacant, meaning a fight between Wilder and Whyte could well happen.
In the UK or the US that is a huge fight and would still grab the attention of most fight fans, with both fighters having everything to gain and the loser facing retirement.
Its a dangerous fight for both men, but in my opinion more so for Whyte. He has shown how susceptible he is to a big punch, being down in many times in his career and now twice being knocked out with the uppercut.
Deontay Wilder is one of the most powerful punches the sport has ever seen, with an incredible 41 knockouts in 42 victories, but will a fight with Dillian Whyte lure the 'Bronze Bomber' back in to the ring?
Rebuild Fight, Otto Wallin?
With most of the top Heavyweights now tied up, Usyk Joshua 2, Parker Joyce, Ruiz Ortiz & Daniel Dubois all set for fights there isn't many top 10-15 fighters available.
One fight that would be of interest to the public is the Otto Wallin fight. The pair were originally scheduled to fight in October last year but Whyte pulled out due to an injury. Wallin is most known for his fight with Tyson Fury a couple years ago when he nearly defeated the Gypsy King with a nasty cut opening on the eye of fury caused by a punch.
Otto Wallin would be the perfect opponent for Dillian to show he still has the desire and ambition to challenge at the top end of the heavyweight division.
Retirement?
After a 31 fight career, Whyte could well call time on his career. At 35 years of age it's unlikely he will be around much longer in the sport, but a big money or a world title shot would be enough to keep him in the ring.
Dillian is still a top 10 heavyweight even after his third loss, arguably top 5. There's no doubt there is desire from Whyte to have another crack at World honours.
In his first interview after his loss, Whyte claims he should have had more time to recover after an Illegal push from Fury.
"I was buzzed but obviously I was trying to regather my senses and he proper pushed me and I fell over and hit my head on the canvas which is illegal. This isn't wrestling, this is boxing. I should have been allowed extra time to recover and then carried on fighting"
