Billam-Smith Edges Out Chamberlain in Bourenmouth
Chris Billam-Smith (16-1 11 KOs) retained his European and Commonwealth titles on the south coast with a unanimous points victory over Isaac Chamberlain (14-2 8 KOs) last night.
The two domestic cruiserweight rivals put on a classic scrap in front of the deafening Bournemouth fans.
The first round set the pace for the rest of the fight with neither fighter willingly taking a back step and the momentum swinging both ways throughout.
Both fighters were hurt in the second in a thrilling round, a left hook to the temple unsteadied Billam-Smith but Chamberlain couldn't find the next big shot to further hurt the Bournemouth man. 'CBS' came firing back moments later with a straight right that shook chamberlain and with twenty seconds to go in the round Chamberlain was hurt again but managed to see out the round.
The tempo remained throughout the bout, with neither man backing down and the adavnatge being swung back and forth, even in the dying embers of the twelvth and final round the pair had the whole arena on its feet as they both emptied the tanks seeking the stoppage.
Chris Billam-Smith took the decision with all three judges scoring it 117-111 in favour of the Bournemouth fan much to the delight of the home fans in attendance.
Ben Whittaker's highly anticipated professional debut did not disappoint, with the west midlander showcasing his stylish and entertaining style from the outset. In just the second round he stopped his opponent Greg O'Neil with a right hook to the temple to start his career in perfect fashion.
Tokyo 2020 Olympian Frazer Clarke continued his 100% knockout record with a second round stoppage over Ariel Bracamonte. A huge left hook took Bracomonte by surprise and sent the heavyweight pummelling to the canvas, with the referee subsequently calling off the fight.
Fellow Olympian, Caroline Dubois looked a classy operator as she stopped Happy Daude in three rounds in just her third fight since turning professional.
Hassan Azim looked impressive in his points victory over fellow Brit Jacob Quinn. Azim had a blsitering start knocking down Quinn in just 14 seconds, however his opponent survived the early onslaught and proved to be a durable fighter which will be massively benificial for Azim this early in his career.
Stevie McKenna made light work of Facundo Rojas becoming the first man to stop the Argentinina, scoring two knockdowns on his way to a second round stoppage.
