Leigh Wood vs Mauricio Lara set to take place for February 4
Leigh Woods rescheduled world title defence against tough
Mexican Mauricio Lara is set to take place on February 4th at Nottingham’s
Motorpoint Arena according to International Boxing News.
The pair were scheduled to meet in September this year, but Wood
pulled out due to an injury, the card still took place with Maxi Hughes vs Kid
Galahad headlining.
Earlier this week Leo Santa Cruz vacated his WBA Featherweight
‘Super’ title, meaning Wood is now the sole title holder for the WBA in the
featherweight division.
The featherweight division is one of the hottest and wide-open
divisions in boxing at the moment, Josh Warrington lost his IBF world title on Saturday
night to Luis Alberto Lopez, also Emanuel Navarette has moved up to challenge
for the WBO World title at 130 pounds (Super Featherweight).
Former opponent of Wood, Michael Conlan, is expected to
fight next for a world title after demolishing Karim Guerfi in 154 seconds on
Saturday night. After fellow Top Rank fighter Alberto Lopez beat Warrington, it
sets up an easy to make in-stable fight between the two.
