Savannah Marshall officially activates rematch clause with Claressa shields
Former middleweight world champion Savannah Marshall
confirms she has officially activated a rematch clause with now undisputed
middleweight champion of the world Claressa Shields.
The pair topped an historic all female card back in October,
with Shields taking a unanimous decision victory over the brit in a one-sided
affair. There were no immediate calls for a rematch initially but after having
time to reflect Marshall now activates the rematch with next summer a realistic
target.
St James Park in Newcastle is being touted as a potential
venue for the rematch, a 52,000-capacity stadium which could host a monumental
rematch and show the true power of the woman’s side of Boxing.
Shields team seemingly turned their attention to a fight with unified super-welterweight champion Natasha Jonas, however the rematch with Marshall may prove to be a road block in allowing that fight to happen.
