Chris Eubank Jr vs Liam Smith Preview, Where To Watch, Live Stream, PPV Info & Full Undercard
A fierce and fiery domestic dust-up will be settled this coming Saturday in front of 20 thousand fans packed inside the Manchester arena to witness Chris Eubank Jr battle Liam Smith supported by a solid undercard.
Both Liam and Chris are entering the stages in their careers
where every fight is a must-win, a loss for either fighter is a huge setback at
this point and could spell the beginning of the end.
Chris Eubank Jr has been inactive for almost a full year due
to his fight with Conor Benn falling through on fight week, whilst Smith will
be entering the ring for the fourth time in 15 months after a run of three successive
wins over Anthony Fowler, Jessie Vargas and Hassan Mwakinyo respectively
The Eubank name carries a certain pressure in the boxing
world and for Jr he hasn’t yet lived up to that surname, coming up short when
it matters. Losses to Billy Joe Saunders and George Groves questioned if Chris
can cut it at the top of the sport.
‘Beefy’ Liam Smith often gets called a ‘basic’ fighter but
that shouldn’t get taken negatively. Smith uses all the fundamentals to his
advantage, a tight guard, a stiff jab and brilliant footwork. All these attributes
will come into account when facing Eubank Jr, Smith likes to fight up close on
the inside and rough up his opponents using his elbows or head.
Chris Eubank Jr has always had that flashy style, throwing
an enormous number of punches in combinations and since linking up with Roy
Jones Jr his style has changed drastically, becoming more composed in the ring
and being more selective with his punches.
Last time out, Eubank Jr registered a one sided convincing win over Welshman Liam Williams in Cardiff, scoring 4 knockdowns on the way to a unanimous decision.
The belts at 160 are spread across the board with Gennadiy
Golovkin unified with the WBA and IBF titles currently, Jermall Charlo occupies
the WBC title and Zhanibek Alimkhanuly holds the WBO crown. Eubank Jr has been
chasing a fight with Golovkin for a while and that fight could be a potential
bout in 2023 if he overcomes Liam Smith.
