Josh Taylor vs Teofimo Lopez Preview, TV Info, Ringwalk Times & Undercard Info
Josh Taylor (19-0 13 KOs) defends his WBO World Title at the world-famous Madison Square Garden this Saturday night as he faces off against bitter rival Teofimo Lopez(18-1 13 KOs).
Madison Square Garden, a venue that has witnessed legendary bouts throughout history, is ready for two former undisputed and unified world champions to battle it out in the ring for the WBO world championship.
The fight is hugely significant for both of these fighters, with each of them coming of controversial wins last time out, they both will feel they have something to prove in the boxing world.
Saturday night will mark 16 months since Josh Taylor last entered the ring in the controversial victory against Jack Catterall. Since that night in Glasgow, Josh Taylor has split from trainer Ben Davison and linked up with Joe McNally in Liverpool.
Taylor has already vacated 3 of his 4 belts to pursue a rematch with Jack Caterrall, however, the fight fell through twice due to injury which led to Taylor taking this defence against Teofimo Lopez.
Josh Taylor is predicting an early knockout over Lopez.
"The way I think he's going to fight, we'll put him out of there early," Taylor told Sky Sports. "But if it goes the other way, which I think it might do as well, it'll be a boxing match, a clever boxing match but nothing that I'm going to be surprised with."
Teofimo Lopez proved himself as one of the best fighters at his weight when he defeated pound-for-pound great Lomachenko in 2020, but a loss to George Kambosas for the unified titles forced a move up to super-lightweight for Teofimo.
In the build-up for this fight, Lopez got the headlines when he said he wants to 'kill' Josh Taylor in this fight.
“I said it like it is - I want to kill Josh Taylor,” he insisted. “What the f*** does that mean? Well, let’s get back to boxing: that is boxing. You’re probably going to lose your life. What does that mean? This is what we sign up for. If I’m going to die in the ring, I went out like a champ. Boxing today is the gladiator days.”
