Leigh Wood vs Josh Warrington Confirmed For October 7th In Sheffield
Leigh Wood will defend his WBA World Featherweight title against Josh Warrington at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield on October 7th live around the world exclusively on DAZN.
The meeting between the Brits is set to be a huge spectacle for fight fans, with a neutral venue picked in Sheffield.
Wood (27-3 16 KOs) produced a sensational show of his boxing ability by avenging his defeat to Mauricio Lara when he boxed his way to a unanimous points victory in Manchester earlier in the year. This will be Woods' fifth consecutive world title fight.
Leeds hero Josh Warrington 31-2-1 (8 KOs) is aiming to become three-time featherweight champion of the world in October. Warrington hasn't fought for nearly a year heading into this huge domestic fight with Wood, his last outing came in December of last year when he lost his IBF World title to Luis Alberto Lopez in front of his home fans in Leeds.
“I’m extremely excited for October 7,” said Wood.
“In terms of the followings we’ve got, the football clubs and the cities, this is arguably the biggest British rivalry in the sport.
“Josh has some great wins on his record and is obviously a two-time world champion, but this is a fight that he cannot lose."
“This is a big fight,” said Warrington.
“It doesn’t get much better than a domestic dust-up for a World Title! I’m obsessed in becoming a three-weight World Champion, to get back on top and that is going to show on the night.
"I will bring an army of fans to Sheffield and the atmosphere will be special."
